Prosthetic valve diphtheroid endocarditis treated with sodium fusidate and erythromycin.

چکیده
Seven patients with diphtheroid endocarditis after prosthetic valve replacement are reported. Diphtheroids grownfrom blood cultures should not be dismissed as contaminants without repeated blood cultures, agglutinin, and L-form studies. Diphtheroid endocarditis may increase in incidence with the wider use of preand postoperative antibiotic prophylaxis, and may be the cause of some examples of endocarditis with 'negative' blood cultures. Four patients survived on a regimen of sodium fusidate (Fucidin) and erythromycin.

Prosthetic valve endocarditis caused by multidrug-resistant Candida albicans in a patient with myelodysplasia syndrome: A case report and literature review
Background and Purpose: Candida endocarditis is an infrequent disease with a high mortality rate, which commonly occurs in immunosuppressed patients with cardiac valve replacement. We reported a 70-year-old woman diagnosed with Candida prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE). This study also involved a review of all published cases of Candida PVE from 1970. Case report: Herein, we reported a 70-ye...
متن کاملA rare case of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis complicated with multiple fistula to peri aortic structure
Multiple aorto-cardiac cavity communications is very rare but important complication of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis. The case below illustrates multiple aorto-cardiac cavity fistula formation following prostethic aortic valve endocarditis presented with slowly progressive symptoms of heart failure. A brief review of surgical reconstruction and the existing literature are presented, i...
متن کاملProsthetic valve endocarditis caused by Acinetobacter calcoaceticus subsp. lwoffi.
Acinetobacter spp. are uncommon etiologic agents of prosthetic valve endocarditis. Two patients with Acinetobacter calcoaceticus subsp. lwoffi prosthetic valve endocarditis are described. The patients were successfully treated with antibiotics (cefotaxime sodium and gentamicin sulfate); thus, we suggest medical treatment rather than early valve replacement in this particular type of infection.

The clinical course, prognostic factors, and management of 50 cases of late prosthetic valve endocarditis, occurring more than two months after valve replacement, were reviewed. Twenty nine cases that presented from 1971 to 1980 were compared with 21 cases that presented from 1981 to 1985. Apart from an appreciable decrease in the frequency of neurological complications between the first period...
